With the view of the people involved with the Mega Quarry. I am as a Citizen of Canada and a Resident of Ontario and I totally disagree with the proposed Quarry. We once were trying to protect our farm lands and water rights. Now we protect the farmers destroy the lands and pollute the water. Our great lakes now have invasive species and the all well know zebra mussel, that has shown up in so many lakes. We have existing quarries all over this province that could supply the aggregate. They have shipped tons upon tons to the U.S. and it must have been cost effective or they would not buy it. The loss of what they propose is far to great to benefit the people of Ontario, the primary benefit are the stakeholders. I have seen what American companies and ownership do to the people of Ontario. I have also watched my wife slowly choked on dust from a gravel pit. After suffering with respiratory distress she died. The noise along with the trucking in this area would dissolve the peace and quiet of the country side. My case was a gravel pit no where the magnitude of this project. I also believe that the even with an environmental assessment that if the MNR are involved in any way the assessment will become tarnished. In the events that have taken place concerning my case with the MNR it would be foolish if not totally insane to believe that any of the rights granted to us by the Environmental Bill of Rights would be upheld by the MNR.
The Ontario Environmental Bill of Rights (EBR) was proclaimed in February 1994. The founding principles of the EBR are stated in its preamble:
- The people of Ontario recognize the inherent value of the natural environment.
- The people of Ontario have a right to a healthful environment.
- The people of Ontario have as a common goal the protection, conservation and restoration of the natural environment for the benefit of present and future generations.
How do you restore land that will be a crater?
I oppose this project for it has no benefits to the people of Ontario or the Citizens of the community.
