Linda Jeffrey, MPP and Minister of Natural Resources

I have Just Read an article at the site SERA an interesting comment by Linda Jeffrey, MPP and Minister of Natural Resources

“It is a positive step forward for Ontarians when the business community and environmental organizations come together to work towards a common solution. The efforts by Holcim Canada and Environmental Defence clearly underscore the importance, for the balance between economic prosperity and long term sustainability of our environment and natural resources. Your initiative will be a nice complement to the rigorous regulatory framework under the Aggregate Resources Act which is administered by my Ministry.”

This was given to my wife by the Federal Government
This is what the Aggregate Resources Act a Gravel Pit Owner and a Township gave her

A comment to this

It is amazing when I read about how the aggregate resources act and the environmental protection act are administered by the MNR. When my wife and I complained and even asked to have a coffee with the agent to discuss our concerns they didn't think it was necessary. They said they would notify the owner of the deficiency's. A year later and no one came to even check on the site to see whether the owner had complied with the complaint. The Township of North Frontenac refused to help in any capacity. The worst part is the gravel pit owner came to our home assured us he would take measures and shook our hands. He as the responsibilities to comply with all aspects of the aggregate resources act and did nothing. To me this is just for Big Business there are no thoughts about the people in the areas of these sites. The only time any one does anything is when something like this happens. The MNR are not for the people they are for Big Business they demonstrate this in there own words. The MNR collects royalties from the amount of aggregate removed whose interests are being looked after? They say torture is illegal in Canada but what took place here is nothing less. Has anyone experienced a rock crusher 200-300 ft. in there front door. Or the constant trucks with dust plumes following them. Jeanine was the soul in my life, and others. She was the most caring and honest person I had ever met. She and I did nothing to deserve what we were handed. Now that her life is gone all they want to do is bury what happened and the truth. This is a poor reflection on the McGuinty Government when the people responsible don't abide by the rules. They can stand up shout how great they are and there policies but at the end of the day we see the results of there wisdom and it is we who pay the price.

I know how we as the people of Ontario are made to abide by the Laws and acts. that govern us. We have the Highway Traffic act. as an example. If you fail to stop on a red light and you are caught you pay the fine etc. etc.. But if you are granted a licence under the aggregate resources act, it is a whole new ballgame. These sites are are self compliant in other words the Companies that operate these sites monitor themselves. They ignore the people that are most directly affected by these operations and as a result people pay the price, not the Gravel Pit Owners or the MNR.. There were restrictions in our case and again if they would had come and talked to us about our concerns things may have been different, they the MNR chose differently. It is the Responsibility of these Ministers to ensure that there subordinates do their Jobs to the best of there abilities to to ensure compliance. If they can not carry out there duties then these sites should be closed until at such time they can monitor the sites. They have video systems that can be installed where a single operator can visually ensure compliance, they do this on the Saint Lawrence Seaway why not here.
